  • For the 4th time, runners from all over the world participate in the annual Peachtree Road Race. The event is supposed to be the largest race of its kind in the world. The race starts very early in the morning. Check their website for further information http://www.atlantatrackclub.org/at02000.htm

How to get there:

MARTA metro stations Lenox and Buckhead are near the start of the Race. Midtown station is near the end of the Race.

  • After the annual Salute 2 America Parade, which ends in the Centennial Olympic Park in Downtown Atlanta, there will be an extensive fireworks display with live music and other amenities.

How to get there:

Take the West Line to the PhilipsArena/Dome/GWCC Station (W-1), or take the North Line to Peachtree Center (N-1), and follow the signs to the Park.

  • Patriotic Pops Concert
    July 3
    The Gainesville Symphony Orchestra performs works by Copland, Sousa and others. The event takes place at Brenau's amphitheater at 8pm. Gregory Pritchard conducts. $23; $20 senior citizens; $8 students. Brenau University, www.artsweb.brenau.edu.

  • Gospel Goes Classical With the ASO
    July 11
    The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra joins gospel performers Juanita Bynum, Kurt Carr and Byron Cage at the Chastain Park Amphitheatre at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale from May 21.

  • Capitol City Opera
    July 20-21
    The opera's annual fund-raiser start at 8pm at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. This year’s theme is "Songs of the South." The fund-raiser includes a silent auction. www.ccityopera.com.
